Idi Amin was a controversial and brutal dictator who ruled Uganda from 1971 to 1979. Despite his horrific human rights record, Amin was initially popular with the Ugandan people, thanks to his economic and social policies. However, his regime ultimately collapsed due to his erratic and violent behavior, leading to his exile in Saudi Arabia, where he died in 2003.
