Saddam Hussein was the fifth President of Iraq, serving in this role from 1979 until 2003. He was deposed from power in the 2003 invasion of Iraq and was later arrested and charged with numerous crimes, including genocide and crimes against humanity. He was tried by an Iraqi court and sentenced to death by hanging, which was carried out on December 30, 2006.
